The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.
Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
