Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades After Initiating Derogatory Songs About Manager Wilder
The striker has joined the Championship side only seven months after instigating insulting songs targeting the team's coach, Wilder.
This experienced forward, a free agent after departing from Leeds United, has agreed to a contract with the Championship strugglers through the winter. Bamford's lengthy career at Elland Road was ended by mutual consent in August.
Among Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds was to lead offensive chants regarding Chris Wilder during the club’s success festivities in April. Currently, the one-cap England player is set to play for Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to rescue the team he loves out of the bottom places.
Past Conflict Between the Striker and Wilder
Both men had previous conflict before Leeds moved up back to the top flight the previous campaign and United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades secured direct promotion whereas Leeds missed out in the playoffs.
Making Amends and Looking Ahead
All appears to have been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement up front and Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his playing days.
The Wilder chant gained traction this spring. A repentant Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, called Wilder the next day.
Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I’ve no problem whatsoever with that. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and admired him calling me.
“We spent 20 minutes and the same again I talked with Daniel Farke too and we had a half-hour chat with him and he is a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to give it and accept it and that is part and parcel of the game across all levels, even on Sunday league. I have no problem at all. I'm fine with it and I told him that to Pat.”
Latest Playing Struggles
Bamford featured in 18 appearances for Leeds last season however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
