Lawrence has expressed that she no longer feels appropriate to speak out countering the Trump government, fearing it could intensify divisive discussions and further divisions throughout the country.

During a discussion, the Oscar winner reflected, “When Trump was first in office, I thought I was acting frantically without clear direction. But experience has shown, election after election, Hollywood stars fail to influence whatsoever on electoral choices.”

She continued, “What’s the point? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to heighten conflict tearing the nation apart.”

Political Evolution

The actress has spoken candidly about supporting Republican and Democratic candidates in past elections. Growing up with conservative Republicans in Kentucky, she cast her ballot for the Republican nominee in 2008 prior to switching to the Democrats and stating she recognized during Obama’s administration that voting Republican was opposing her personal freedoms as a woman.

Earlier Remarks

Earlier in her career, she remarked that a Trump victory would be “the end of the world” and endorsed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. More recently, she gave her endorsement to Kamala Harris, “because I feel she’s a strong contender and I know that she will do whatever she can to defend reproductive rights.”

Lawrence was joined by most of Hollywood in her opposition to the former president as a candidate for re-election, but the lack of leverage public figures have over the voting intentions was underscored by his election win.

“Another four years seems distinct,” commented Lawrence regarding his administration. “As he made his plans clear. We knew what he did for the previous administration. He was transparent. And that’s the option selected.”

Lawrence is highlighting the drama, Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she portrays a recent parent who faces challenges with her mental health in the countryside. During a media event for the project in the film festival, she addressed Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s devastating. What’s happening is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”

The actress elaborated by stating that she was disappointed by “the disrespect in the discourse of the political landscape currently and how that is going to be accepted to the children right now. It’s going to be typical to them that elected officials deceive.”

She attempted to refocus outrage about the issue to policymakers rather than entertainers. “Concentrate on who is responsible,” she said, which was interpreted as a reference to the then-recent pledge endorsed by numerous entertainment industry figures to refuse engagement with Israeli film institutions.

Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim aged 22 for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, is attracting awards attention for her work in Die, My Love. Even though the director has disputed the narrative being understood as one of postpartum depression and psychological distress, the actress said that she did relate to parts of her character’s journey after the delivery of her youngest child, shortly after production wrapped.

“I felt anxiety for my son,” she commented, “imagining every potential danger, and then second-guessing everything that I was doing. I was receiving counseling, but I began using a medication called Zurzuvae and I used it for two weeks and it was effective.”

Lawrence also mentioned regarding the liberating necessity of filming without clothes in the film while she was some months pregnant and limited physically.

“It’s refreshing,” she said, of being forced to abandon insecurities. “Truly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What separates me between me and a prostitute? But it isn’t a major concern.”
