Rob Edwards and O'Neil represent the early candidates under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was sacked on Sunday after the squad's ten-game winless beginning to the Premier League season.

And both candidates - both of who have historic associations to the club - are part of the names to be considered by the Wolves leadership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a potential hurdle to his appointment at Molineux.

However the former Luton head coach - who made over a century of games for the club during his time as a player - is considered a leading candidate for the position.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the club directors as they begin the search of appointing a fresh manager.

O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise contender, although he would be a shock appointment considering he was sacked by Wolves in December last year.

The former West Ham United midfielder is currently unemployed which means Wolves would not need to provide any compensation.
