Alleged Harasser Inquired: 'Yet Suppose I Might Be Madeleine?'
A individual indicted with harassing Kate McCann allegedly recorded her a voicemail message which asked: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who a jury heard has repeatedly claimed she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are on trial charged with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February 2025.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court was told phone records and data obtained from phones logged Ms Wandelt repeatedly requesting Madeleine's mother for a DNA test over the past two years.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a trip in Portugal - is considered the most publicized child disappearance cases and continues to be open.
'I Don't Want Money'
A separate recorded message, played in court, documented Ms Wandelt stating: "I realize I'm heavy and not pretty like Madeleine had been, but I feel what I feel."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's recording stated: "What if there is a tiny probability that I'm her? What then? Isn't that significant for you?"
"I do not need money, I possess a life here in Poland, I only wish to discover," she added.
The tribunal was informed that by means of electronic messages, text messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt requested a genetic test, transmitted youth pictures to her phone in a effort to show a likeness to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and stated to have "recollections" from a childhood with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, an intelligence analyst with Leicestershire Police who collated the data, advised the court there "showed no any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also contacted family friends of the McCanns, according to the communication logs.
On that date, Gerry McCann responded to a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "incorrect contact information."
During that incident Ms Wandelt deposited a message on Mrs McCann's recording declaring "I won't give up and I plan to establish my position."
The court was informed the co-defendant established a connection online with Ms Wandelt prior to assisting her on a visit to the McCanns' home in Leicestershire in last December.
Communication data revealed Mrs Spragg had reached out using communication app to Mrs McCann to express the news outlets had depicted Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she deserved to be taken seriously in the time before the trip to that location, the county, in that winter.
The court heard communications between the two individuals, in last November, planning attempting to acquire Mrs McCann's genetic material from her bins or from silverware at a eating establishment.
"We have to take action," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the trip to their house, Mrs Spragg dispatched a text which expressed: "We're currently sat near the McCanns' house with our lights out similar to investigators. I had hoped to accomplish this with another person I didn't imagine I would be doing that with the McCanns."
The proceedings continues.
