A systems problem at Edinburgh's ATC meant no planes could enter or leave the airport.

Passenger services have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport after a significant technical issue at the control tower halted all operations.

All aircraft movements were suspended because of an systems problem that arose around 08:30.

A number of travelers found themselves stranded in aircraft on the tarmac while the issue persisted.

Services Recommence with Ongoing Delays

A statement indicated at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

However, ongoing issues are likely to persist for some time. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been cancelled, with a host of additional flights subject to postponements.

A spokesperson had previously estimated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be affected.

"Travelers are urged to get in touch with their carrier for the most up-to-date details on their booked journeys," the statement added.

Source of the Issue

The airport attributed the full ground stop to an technical fault with its ATC service provider.

Passengers are still being urged to verify the schedule of their flight before heading to the airport as backlogs are cleared.
